Bhaktapur Tourism Development Committee
BHAKTAPUR, a home of medival art and architecture and rich cultural and historical sites, literally means a “City of devotees”. On being the capital of then ‘Nepal’ and being under least intrusion since then, by the neighboring culture and trends it has been able to retain its centuries old richness to this date.
TOURISM, is one of the world’s largest as well as growing industry and its significance in a landlocked country, Nepal can hardly be overemphasized. Bhaktapur, with its reknown world heritage sites and all the live cultural riches, undoubtedly has tremendous potential for its economic progress through well planned Tourism Development.
We have seen many tourism sites, even in the Kathmandu Valley, which lost their charms and livelihood due to uncontrolled and unplanned growth of Tourism related activities and unthoughtful and irresponsible behaviours of the people directly and indirectly related to the industry.
Hence, with the intensions of retaining and improving, in all possible aspects, the image of Bhaktapur, BTDC was established in 1997 with the active participation of the local community people directly and indirectly related to tourism industries. ‘Progress through healthy and sustainable tourism development- is the main guiding principle for all the activities of BFDC.
