information on tourism to all our visitors through this bulletin. As this is our first effort, we are sure there are many short comings in this issue. Your suggestions and comments would be instrumental in developing this
publication into a more informative and useful possession for every tourist.

I am very pleased to get an information regarding ‘Bhaktapur Tourism Information Bulletin’ to be published on the occasion of the World Tourism Day 2001, with an objective to promote tourism in Bhaktapur.
I hope Bulletin will play an important role to make Bhaktapur as tourist destination as well as to promote tourism in Bhaktapur. Apart from that, the Bulletin will be very useful to tourists, guides, tourism entrepreneur, teacher, students, scholars and others.
I would like to express my great satisfaction and wish all success in attracting local youths in tourism so that the economic benefit from tourism could help to raise the living standard of the people at large.

It was great to hear that Bhaktapur Tourism Development Committee is publishing “Bhaktapur Tourism Information Bulletin”.
Bhaktapur, a ethnic town of temples, a historical city and one of the world heritage sites is still out of the information of the huge number of people in the world. I hope this bulletin helps to popularize the amazingly beautiful town among visitors and the would-be ones.
Furthermore, not forgetting to thank everyone involved-directly or indirectly for this endeavor, I would like to wish all the best for the grand sucess of this bulletin.

I am glad to know that Bhaktapur Tourism Development Board is going to publish a information bulletin on the occassion of the World Tourism Day 2001. I hope this bulletin will be an important document to promote the tourism of Bhaktapur.
Bhaktapur Municipality is on the way to declare it as a cultural city. Municipality is launching different training - foreign laguages, cooking, computer skill etc. to promote tourism in this area.
I am optismistic that this bulletin will be a successful step to inform tourists it’s cultural heritage preservation, cleaning the city and tourism promotion of Bhaktapur.

occasion of World Tourism Day 2001 aiming to provide good information to tourists about our historical city Bhaktapur. We hope this bulletin will be helpful to attract many more tourist to this city. We extend our best wishes that Bhaktapur Tourism Information Bulletin will be successful to play a vital role in the tourism development in Nepal.

BTDC & BTAG organized Traditional Newari Painting (Paubha) Exhibition
The importance of promoting art, culture and the artists can hardly be overemphasized when speaking about Tourism Promotion. More we encourage and promote traditional artists more we can ensure the preservation and appreciation for our cultural heritage. Bhaktapur Tourism Development Committee and the Bhaktapur Traditional Artist Group hence jointly organized an Exhibition of Traditional Paubha Paintings from 12th April till the 15th this year at Durbar Square. At the inaugural function, the chief guest, Hon. Member of Parliament Mr. Naryan Man Bijukchhen honoured late Mr. Siddhi Muni Vajracharya, Nepal’s reknown Paubha Artist, on behalf of the organizers. The source of inspiration to all the artists of the new generation, late Mr. Shakya, was offered a shawl (a symbol of high honour) and honorary letter of appreciation for his lifetime devotion and dedication in the field. Born in 1933 in Kathmandu late Mr. Shakya passed away on the 2nd June 2001.
World Tourism Day, 2001, being observed
Bhaktapur Tourism Development committee and Bhaktapur Municipality is celebrating the world tourism day on the 27th September 2001 with various programmes. According to the information provided by the municipality authority this day is being promoted among the locals to generate awareness on the importance of Tourism. The municipality is organizing cleaning campaigns, live cultural programmes, as well as a photo exhibition in Durbar Square on the same occasion. The first few visitors entering the city will be welcomed on the day with special gifts, consisting the symbols of our important heritage.
Likewise Bhaktapur Tourism Development Committee will also be welcoming the first entrants on the day. The first visitors will be offered garlands, special gifts free accommodation and free meals. They will be lead with honour to inaugurate the photo exhibition (Photographs by Mr. Ashok R. Shakya and Mr. Prushottam Shrestha) on ‘Bhaktapur; life & culture’ which is being organized by BTDC for a week. The guests will then be offered free breakfast with the member participants. Bhaktapur Tourism Development Committee initiated celebrating World Tourism Day in Bhaktapur city in 1997.
