Food Festival 2002
This mega Newah food festival was the first of its kind ever to be held in Bhaktapur, on 23rd Aug 2002 and it was a great success. The program was being promoted by Nepal Tourism Board & supported by Bhaktapur Municipality. For the promotion of the event different medias like-Nepal Television, Channel Nepal, The Rising Nepal, NTTR, Kathmandu Post, Space Time Daily and F.M. stations had beautifully covered the event.
For the success, number of other compandes had also supported the event. Altogether 20 food stalls & 10 game parlors were camped on the ground. Some of other activities included fishing in Siddha Pokhari, Boating in Nephuke, Free face paining, free entry, Bingo and much more. According to the daily news paper, the event attracted over 40 thousand visitors including domastic & international tourism. The programme was being in agurated by Mr. Pradip Raj Pandey-CEO of NTB.
Objective :
· Promote traditional Newah hyenic dishes with modified presentation.
· Promote Bhaktapur as a tourist destination to domastic & international tourists.
· To promote Gai-Jatra and to add more charms to the festival.
· Help conserve Newah cultural food & traditions.
Special feature :
Bhaktapur will host a large number of visitors on the proposed day of Gai-Jatra. A big courtyard near-Durbar Square will be the venue for the festival, which will be decorated in
Newah festive tradition and the festival spot will be filled with mouth watering varieties of typical
Newah hygienic dishes with full decoration such as Samya baji, Chang, Woo, Chatamari, Yomari, Quati (special soup of Gai-Jatra festival), king curd, paun tee, traditional wine, rice beer etc. served to the guests in a traditional way.
On the second Day live musical concert to attract local youths will be organized in addition to all the other events.
