4TH STREET FESTIVAL (POKHARA)

Pokhara, a popular natural paradise nestled in the laps of the Majestic Himalayas' just hosted "4th street festival" from 30th, Dec 2002 and 1st Jan 2003 on the occasion of New Year Eve. The programme which was organized by restaurant and Bar Association (Reban) – Pokhara Chapter was promoted by Nepal Tourism Board Bhaktapur Tourism Development Committee participated and supported the event with the hope to promote Bhaktapur and its culture in Pokhara and to develop mutual co-operation between the organizers and BTDC.

The extravaganza included number of events such as food festival, Ethnic cultural dances, live bands, Tourist Race, Boat Race, Para-gliding display, Avia flying display, Handicraft exhibition etc. About 3 km street of lakeside Pokhara was being colourfully decorated and the crowd of visitors were out of organizer's expectation. A traditional Newari Dhime-Baja played by team of 8 ladies members on their traditional dress-Haku Patasi dominated the festival. This Dhime performance the contribution of Bhaktapur Tourism Development Committee.

Four Board members including secretary general Mr. Chudamani Kayastha, treasurer Mr. Nowal Rajbhandari accompanied the cultural Dhime Baja group to Pokhara. A cultural Dhime Baja was performed for two days in and around the venue of the festival. Visitors truly appreciated and enjoyed the Newari drums and the Newar community in Pokhara were the ones delighted the must. During the closing ceremony, BTDC was awarded a tokan of love and a certificate for the co-operative support to the organizer.
